Jewett City – Richard Lowell Ouillette, 83, of Jewett City, passed away Wednesday evening at the Backus Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Jewett City, CT, a son to the late Ruth (Rathbun) and Henry Ouillette.  He is survived by his wife Irene (Tenczar) Ouillette.  They were married on Aug. 28, 1965 and shared 51 wonderful years of marriage together.
Richard grew up in Jewett City and attended Riverside Elementary and Griswold HS, graduating in 1951.  He went on to proudly serve his country within the United States Air Force. Upon returning he worked as manager at Minski's Meat Market for 10 years. Richard then moved on to become Director of the TVCCA Fuel Assistance Program retiring after 30 years of service.  He loved giving back to his community and was an active member of many organizations.  Richard was a life member of the Jewett City Fire Department and former ambulance driver.  As a proud veteran he was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 10004 and the American Legion Post 15 in Jewett City.  He was the Chairman of the annual Veterans Day services held at Fanning Park.  He was also Chairman of the Loyalty Day Parades, both in Norwich and Jewett City and the annual Memorial Day Parades in Jewett City for over 50 years.  Richard was also a member of the Polish Club, French Club, Norwich Elks and Jewett City Jaycees. When not serving others, Richard enjoyed watching sports and was an avid fan of the New York Giants, Boston Red Sox, UCONN women's basketball and NASCAR racing following his favorite driver Dale Earnhardt.
In addition to his wife Irene, he is survived by his daughters Lisa Barber and husband Daniel and Christine Ouillette; brother Donald Ouillette and wife Carol; sister-in-law Kathleen Ouillette; grandchildren Zachary Barber and Fiancée Kaitlyn Gooslin and Cody Barber as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was predeceased by his brother Henry “Bud” Ouillette and nephew Glen Ouillette.
There will be a Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church in Jewett City at 10:00AM with a graveside service and military honors to follow within Pachaug Cemetery in Griswold.  The funeral will assemble at the church.  Calling hours will be held from 5:00-7:00PM on Monday evening at the Gagne Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Road Jewett City, CT.

Dearest Lisa, Dan,
We are so sorry to hear of your father's passing. He was always a bright spot with a smile for everyone at every family occasion. I know how close all of you are and his passing will be a loss to all.
Please extend such condolences to your mom, Zach and Cody. Unfortunately we will not be able to physically attend, but know we are with you in thoughts and prayers.

I am sorry to hear of Rich's passing and I apologize for the late note. I just found out today. I always enjoyed talking and joking with Rich. I am sure he will be greatly missed. My family has you in our prayers. Regards...Steve
