Griswold – Albert Romelus Bordeleau, 96, of Bitgood Road passed away Thursday, May 8, 2020 at W.W. Backus Hospital. As one of 12 children, Albert was born January 31, 1924 in Fitchburg, MA, son to the late Patrick and Emilia (Sylvestre) Bordeleau. On May 14, 1949 he married Helen (Bonchuk) Bordeleau and shared nearly 71 years of marriage together. Albert and Helen were active communicants of St Mary’s church. She survives him.
As a member of the Greatest Generation, Albert proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He later continued his service in the Army Reserves and retired after 27 total years of service. He worked for the State of Connecticut at UCONN Storrs Campus in the maintenance department for over 20 years before retiring. He also worked for many years for the Town of Griswold maintaining the voter machines. Albert was an avid UCONN Women’s Basketball fan and spent many enjoyable hours watching their games and proudly displayed the Husky flag. He was best known for his “Outstanding “response and infectious smile with which he greeted everyone.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children Albert Bordeleau and his wife Pennee of Maine, James Bordeleau and his wife Linda of Griswold, and Joan Gelinas Warkentien and her husband Allan of Suffield, his brothers Paul Bordeleau and Henry Bordeleau, sisters Alice Voghel, Doris Loranger, and Jean Fischer. He is also survived by his grandchildren Adam, Kim, Jeff, Michael, Kristen and Craig and 10 great grandchildren.
A memorial mass and celebration of life will be announced and held following the lift of social restrictions.
