Marion Miller Obituary

Marion Miller passed away peacefully at Backus Hospital on February 19, 2024, with her family by her side.  She was 92 years old.

Marion was born in Hawthorne NJ in Oct 1931 to Walter and Elva DeRose.  She celebrated 70 years of marriage to the love of her life, Edward Miller, in November, 2023.

Besides her husband, Edward, she is survived by her daughter, Debbi Harrison (Keith) of Griswold, CT, and her sons, Barry Miller, of Hallstead, PA and David Miller of Punta Gorda, FL; her sister, Lois DeRose, of Hallstead, PA; her grandchildren, Timothy Harrison, Jason Miller, Amy Miller Shoemaker, Sharon Little, Trina Miller, Tammy Miller, and Nicole Sierra; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her grandsons, Matthew Miller and Officer Adam Jobbers-Miller; her daughters-in-law, Patricia Miller and Barbara Miller; and her siblings Marge Mathews, Robert DeRose, Evelyn Blamey, Harold DeRose, Dorothy Marion, and Herbert DeRose.

Marion was the first in her family to graduate from high school and worked for Carlock Insurance and the Visiting Homemaker Service of Passaic County until her first child was born.  She raised her children with love and devotion in Clifton, NJ with her husband Ed, and then went back to work at the Visiting Homemaker Service when their children were older.  Marion and Ed moved to Griswold, CT, in 2006 next door to their daughter Debbi, and spent many winters in Punta Gorda with David and Patty.

Family was the most important thing in Marion’s life.  The DeRose and Miller families enjoyed a close relationship where they grew up in Paterson, NJ, and continued to spend many memorable holidays and gatherings together at Marion and Ed’s home in Clifton throughout the years.  In her retirement years, Marion became an avid reader, enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a devout Christian, a member of the Second Reformed Church in Wyckoff, NJ, and then the Preston City Congregational Church in Preston, CT.

The family would like to thank all their family, friends and neighbors who took the time to send cards, flowers, and words of condolences; Marion’s two caregivers, Jodi Palaia and Christine Sneed, for their dedication over the past year; and the staff of Backus Hospital E3 and E4 for their dignified care as she looked forward to meeting the Lord and reuniting with family members waiting for her in Heaven.

Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home of Griswold, CT has been entrusted with the arrangements.  For online condolences please go to www.gagnefuneralhome.com.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Preston City Congregational Church on April 6, 2024, at 11 am followed by burial at the Preston City Cemetery.  A luncheon will be served by the church after the service.

In Marion’s memory please honor her by wearing something purple.
