Preston –  Thomas C. Umphlett Jr, 76, of Preston, CT passed away at home, surrounded
by his family  on Jan 11, 2018.  
He was born on Nov 7, 1941 in Westerly, RI, a son to the late Barbara (Swain) and Thomas C.
Umphlett Sr.  He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene M. (Fortin) Umphlett.
Tom served his country honorably within the US Navy before becoming an
electrician working as an electrical contractor for many years.  He was an avid fisherman
and hunter and will be missed by his dog “Slate”.  
In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his children, Glenn T. Umphlett (Michele), Patricia U. Mandeville (Steven), Julie I. Witter(Duane)
Siblings Barbara Robert, Dennis Umphlett, Larry Umphlett, Gary Umphlett, Debra McGowan, Joann Schmidt.  He was predeceased by his sister Carol McMahon.
Grandchildren, Matthew T. Umphlett (Nicole), Michael W. Umphlett, Jacob T.
Umphlett, Kathryn A. Mandeville, Molly E. Clark (William), Emma S. Mandeville, Trey
J. Witter,Ryan C. Witter.
There will be calling hours held on Thursday Jan 18, 2018 from 5:00-7:00PM at
the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Rd., Jewett City, CT.  A graveside
service and burial will be held at 11:00AM on Friday Jan 19, 2018 at the First Baptist
Church Cemetery on Pendleton Hill Rd in North Stonington.
The family would like to extend many thanks to Dr.Slater and the Office of Eastern Connecticut Hematology and Oncology for their exceptional care.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Tom’s memory to the Center for
