Chris Palonen, 73, of Griswold passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 5th , 2017 after a long battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Born in Putnam, Connecticut on June 28th 1944, he was the son of the late Olga and Risto Palonen. He was a Griswold High School graduate class of 1962. Air Force veteran 1963 – 1967. He married Carolyn Wheeler on June 29th 1969. He was a member of the Rose City Chorus for 14 years as well as the Griswold Players Community Chorus. Chris was a trustee at The 2nd Congregational Church of Griswold where he sang in the choir. His hobbies included building speakers, repairing electronics, and spending quality time with his grandchildren. Survived by his wife Carolyn, his daughters Meg Czmyr and Kate Gilgenbach, his son Brad Palonen, and his four grandchildren Amanda, Mitchell, Evan, and Sam; brothers Stuart and Philip, and twin sister Candace. He was predeceased by a brother Gerard. Calling hours are respectfully omitted and burial will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The 2nd Congregational Church of Griswold, 129 East Main Street or The Center for Hospice, 227 Dunham Street in Norwich.
